About The Position

The New York City Department of Transportation, Division of Bridges is responsible for managing the full life cycle of over 800 bridges and tunnels and over 600 retaining walls, ensuring safety of the public and ensuring mobility for all users. Team members may work on major project designs, oversee construction, oversee maintenance activities, perform engineering reviews and quality assurance tasks on some of the most iconic and complex projects in the City. Bridge Repairer and Riveters repair and maintain the structural members of bridges including steel beams, columns, girders and handrails. Other responsibilities include using power tools, cut-outs and oxyacetylene burning equipment. The selected candidates will erect work platforms and tie all types of knots and splices to ring planks, beams and equipment. Prepares rough field sketches incidental to structural repairs. Read blueprints and structural steel details. Keeps job and other records. May operate motor vehicles in the performance of assigned duties. May be required to work night or weekend shifts. Performs other related duties.

Requirements

  • Five years of full-time satisfactory experience as a Bridge Repairer and Riveter, outside structural or ornamental ironworker, as a boilermaker, or in a related shipbuilding trade.
  • Possession of a Class B Commercial Driver License valid in the State of New York.
  • Must maintain the Class B Commercial Driver License during their employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form.
  • Possess a valid NYS welding license. This license must be maintained throughout duration of employment in this title.
