About The Position

Michael Baker International is seeking a highly motivated Bridge Project Manager to support our growing Bridge Practice in our Cary, North Carolina office. This position offers a unique opportunity for an experienced bridge engineer to lead challenging bridge projects while developing the leadership, management, and business skills necessary to support the long-term growth of our bridge practice. The successful candidate will be a strong technical professional and effective project manager who is passionate about bridge engineering, committed to mentoring and developing junior engineers, and dedicated to building a high-performing, collaborative team. This role is intended for an individual with the potential and desire to assume increasing leadership responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering from ABET Accredited University focused on Structures
  • 10+ years of bridge design and analysis experience
  • North Carolina P.E. or ability to obtain within 6 months
  • Familiarity with AASHTO, NCDOT design and construction standards
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Self-motivated, flexible, and able to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Passionate about sharing knowledge and expertise and mentoring junior engineers

Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee conventional highway bridge projects from planning through final delivery.
  • Ensure adherence to project scope, schedule, budget, and quality objectives.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams to ensure successful project execution.
  • Monitor project performance and proactively resolve technical and project management challenges.
  • Lead and perform conventional highway bridge design, rehabilitation design, and bridge load ratings.
  • Provide oversight and technical review of bridge design calculations, plans, specifications, and estimates.
  • Ensure compliance with AASHTO, NCDOT, and client-specific standards and requirements.
  • Champion quality control and quality assurance efforts across bridge projects.
  • Assist the Department Manager with workload planning, staff utilization, and resource management.
  • Mentor and develop junior engineers and technical staff to support their professional growth.
  • Work closely with the Department Manager to gain exposure to department operations, business development, client management, and strategic planning.
  • Help identify opportunities to grow the Bridge Practice and strengthen client relationships.
  • Develop the people management, leadership, and business skills necessary to assume increasing responsibilities within the organization.
