About The Position

Fisher Associates is seeking a Bridge Project Engineer (PE) to lead bridge engineering efforts in the Canonsburg, PA area. This role supports Southwestern Pennsylvania's transportation infrastructure, including PennDOT and municipal bridge projects. Responsibilities encompass structural analysis, load rating, inspections, foundation design, construction support, and the delivery of multidisciplinary roadway and civil/structural projects. The Bridge Project Engineer will design bridges that connect communities, lead technical bridge tasks, coordinate with clients and agencies, support Project Managers, mentor junior staff, and ensure the delivery of accurate, constructible, and standards-compliant transportation structures.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in Civil Engineering or related field required.
  • 10+ years of transportation experience with a strong background in structures, bridge design, inspection, load rating, and civil/structural project delivery.
  • Proficiency in MicroStation, STAAD, and PENNDOT bridge design software required.
  • Professional ownership, client service, critical thinking, problem-solving, sound judgment, organization, planning, attention to detail, collaboration, integrity, respect, active listening, and continuous-improvement mindset.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Professional Engineering License (PE) preferred or ability to obtain it.
  • Familiarity with NYSDOT or PennDOT design standards preferred.
  • Experience preparing bridge design plans, structural calculations, load ratings, inspection reports, cost estimates, specifications, and construction-support documentation.
  • Ability to coordinate technical tasks across bridge, roadway, civil, structural, survey, GIS, inspection, subconsultant, client, and agency teams.
  • Comfort mentoring junior staff, supporting technical development, documenting assumptions, and helping standardize quality review and constructability practices.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical issues clearly to Project Managers, clients, agencies, field staff, and internal project teams.

Responsibilities

  • Lead bridge design tasks, including load rating, structural analysis, foundation design, inspection support, transportation structures, and multidisciplinary civil/structural project coordination.
  • Develop design plans, specifications, cost estimates, reports, budgets, documentation, and technical deliverables aligned with scope, schedule, quality, and project requirements.
  • Support project planning meetings, client coordination, regulatory approvals, presentations, RFIs, construction-phase services, site visits, and technical issue resolution.
  • Review plans and bridge deliverables for quality, accuracy, constructability, code compliance, state and local standards, safety requirements, and client expectations.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers, engineers, inspectors, subconsultants, clients, DOTs, approving agencies, and junior staff while mentoring technical development and sharing best practices.
