About The Position

Under the direction of the Bridge Inspection Section Leader, performs Quality Control (QC) reviews of bridge and tunnel inspection reports drafted by in-house staff and consultants. Assists the Bridge Inspection Section Leader with preparing inspection schedules, reviewing consultant cost proposals and assigned task support documents. Supports in-house staff with inspection report writing and database updates. This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures. Requirements

  • Principles and Practices of Civil Engineering as Applied to the development, Design, Construction, and Maintenance of the State Highway System.
  • Federal and State regulations, policies, procedures and national bridge inspection standards.
  • Bridge engineering design, inspection and maintenance.
  • Familiarity with the principles of consultant agreements, relationships, and Quality Control programs.
  • Google workspace.
  • Communication and interpersonal relationships as applied to contacts with other staff within the agency, consultants, and other agency staff and representatives of governmental jurisdictions.
  • Oral and written communication.
  • Applying sound judgment on bridge engineering practices.
  • Manage a number of tasks or assignments simultaneously.
  • Understand relationships and the role of quality control programs.
  • Driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job.
  • Possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks.
  • Maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training.
  • Maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11) if operating a personally owned vehicle on state business.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.E.). Candidates will be required to meet registration requirements set forth by the Arizona Technical Board of Registration and attain an Arizona PE from the Board within 6 months of employment start date.
  • Successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).

Nice To Haves

  • A minimum of B.S. degree in Civil Engineering.
  • A minimum of 2 years experience as a senior bridge engineer (DT Transportation Engineer) or a minimum of 2 years as a nationally certified bridge inspector.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews draft inspection reports for compliance with Bridge Inspection Guidelines and the Specifications for the National Bridge and Tunnel Inventory Specifications.
  • Prepares, develops and monitors statewide bridge inspection schedules in compliance with Bridge Inspection Guidelines and National Bridge and Tunnel Inspection Standards.
  • Reviews consultant cost proposals and task orders for bridge and tunnel inspections.
