About The Position

This position is accountable for the operation, inspection, minor repair work, and routine maintenance of all state-maintained bridges and culverts in the district. The Illinois Department of Transportation is seeking to hire a Bridge Maintenance Engineer. Requirements

  • Current registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Illinois OR current registration as a Licensed Structural Engineer in the state of Illinois.
  • Five years of experience in civil engineering.

  • Ability to initiate, coordinate and direct large scale engineering programs or research and planning activities of a difficult technical nature.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the laws and policies controlling the activities administered.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements plans and programs to ensure year-round maintenance of bridges.
  • Directs inspections, minor repair work, and routine maintenance of all bridges in the district to determine repair of maintenance required at each structure.
  • Compiles records and prepare reports regarding bridge maintenance for accounting purposes.
  • Reviews as requested preliminary bridge plans for future construction to ensure needs are being addressed.
  • Attends field review inspections as requested for final acceptance of bridge construction.
  • Trains, motivates, and evaluates subordinate personnel.
  • Supervises or aids in emergency maintenance.
  • Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules.
  • Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
