About The Position

Michael Baker International's Bridge team is seeking a Bridge Design Engineer. This role will contribute to the design and delivery of bridge projects, supporting a variety of structural engineering tasks from preliminary analysis through final design and construction support. The engineer will work alongside experienced engineers and project managers on a diverse portfolio of projects across Montana and the Western United States. This position offers the opportunity to build technical expertise, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and contribute to impactful infrastructure projects. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil or Structural Engineering (Master’s preferred).
  • 6+ years of experience in bridge or transportation structural engineering.
  • Strong understanding of AASHTO LRFD design specifications.
  • Experience with structural analysis software (e.g., Midas, LARSA, SAP2000).
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Montana required; ability to obtain PE licensure through reciprocity in additional Western States preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with MDT standards and procedures is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Support bridge design efforts for a variety of structure types, including steel and concrete bridges, under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Perform structural analysis and design calculations in accordance with AASHTO LRFD specifications.
  • Assist in the development of plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E).
  • Utilize structural analysis and design software such as Midas, LARSA, or SAP2000.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary project teams, including roadway, geotechnical, and construction professionals.
  • Assist in reviewing project deliverables to ensure quality and compliance with client and regulatory standards.
  • Participate in project meetings and contribute to technical discussions.
  • Provide support during construction, including responding to RFIs and reviewing shop drawings.
  • Stay current with industry standards, best practices, and emerging technologies.
