About The Position

HDR is seeking a Bridge EIT/Designer to join its Transportation Business Group, based in the Charlotte or Raleigh, North Carolina office. The role applies structural engineering and detailing techniques to bridge design for highway and railway projects. Typical projects include steel plate girder, prestressed concrete, segmental and cable bridges, box culverts, and interchanges. The position involves selecting standard bridge engineering and design procedures, developing structural details with specialized software, performing structural load calculations, and assisting with geometric layouts and quantity development. The employee may also participate in bridge inspections and perform other duties as needed. Candidates hired without an Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate will be titled Bridge Designer and are expected to obtain their EIT for career progression.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree.
• Familiarity with Bluebeam Revu and knowledge of engineering software packages such as LEAP Bridge Enterprise, FB-MultiPier, LPile, AASHTOWare BrR, midas Civil, CSiBridge, RM Bridge, spColumn, STLBridgeLRFD, or STLBridge.
• Bentley OpenBridge Modeler and/or Autodesk Infraworks and Civil3D.
• Strong understanding of and hands-on experience using computers for structural layout and design.
• Good communication skills and willingness to work in a team environment.
• Commitment to actively participating in HDR's employee-owned culture.

Nice To Haves

• Master's degree in civil engineering.
• Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate; candidates hired without one are expected to obtain it for career progression.
• Experience in bridge or structural design.
• Experience with MathCAD, AutoCAD, LARSA, and Prestress Concrete Design.

Responsibilities
