About The Position

This role is for an individual who thrives in a fast-paced construction environment and takes pride in getting the details right. As a Bridge Construction Inspector, you’ll combine technical expertise, on-site observation, and strong coordination to support the successful delivery of bridge projects from the ground up. Experience working on Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors, or other major transportation departments or municipalities is desired. This position will be located in our Edmonton office and may require some short-term travel to other areas of Alberta. ISL is comprised of over 600 employees including engineers, technologists, planners, landscape architects, and scientists who collaborate to deliver infrastructure projects that minimize environmental impacts and maximize community benefits. ISL has five sectors specializing in Transportation, Municipal and Community, Bridges, Building and Structures, and Land and Environment. The Edmonton Bridge team collaborates on a variety of infrastructure projects for clients such as The City of Edmonton, Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors, counties, municipalities, and private land developers. Projects include large interchange bridges, river crossing bridges, smaller bridges and culverts, retaining structures, reservoirs, and other concrete structures.

Requirements

  • Related professional designation
  • 5-10 years of experience working as a Bridge Construction Inspector on Major and Standard bridge inspection for Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors
  • The skillsets outlined in Section 11 of the Engineering Consulting Guidelines Volume 1, and in particular section A.2 of the Bridge Construction Manual volume 3.
  • Class 5 Drivers license

Responsibilities

  • Construction project management including internal cost control, staff coordination and allocation, client communications, internal and external reporting.
  • Performing or management of construction contract administration including: project reporting, quantity calculations and progress estimates, change management processes, meeting coordination and management, issue and claim management, scheduling, coordination of survey, coordination with design/ environmental/ other disciplines/ subconsultants and other similar duties.
  • Performing or managing of staff for bridge construction site inspection and fabrication inspection, issue management, and reporting.
  • Project-specific or corporate development and implementation/management/monitoring of internal construction inspection tools, check-sheets, ITPs, report templates, etc.
  • Continued development of proactive project management, contract administration, bridge construction / fabrication technical skills.
  • Corporate initiatives including construction committee objectives and development of quality processes, constructability reviews, and quality management audits.
