About The Position

SFC Civil Constructors, a division of Journey Group is seeking a full-time Bridge Construction Assistant Superintendent. In this role, you'll work on projects with guidance from experienced Superintendents while coordinating field employees to improve safety, reliability, quality, and production. You will help support systems and processes that align and optimize the division's operations to deliver value to customers. The position also focuses on developing team skills, fostering employee engagement, and driving problem resolution. Additionally, you'll contribute to building accountability and ownership across the team.

Requirements

  • Technical education or and/or 3 years' work experience is required; or the combination of education to meet the essential job functions.
  • Ability to read plans/specs and follow OSHA‑required safe work practices.
  • Strong heavy‑equipment knowledge and safe, efficient work coordination.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and computer-based reporting/maintenance systems.
  • Strong communication, organization, leadership, and team-building skills.
  • Independent problem-solving, professionalism, and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Valid driver's license required; must be 18+ to work in a construction environment.
  • Ability to travel in and around South Dakota!

Responsibilities

  • Take on increasing responsibility for daily civil construction operations while observing and learning from experienced team members.
  • Assist with project planning, including cost analysis, budgeting, scheduling, and coordination of labor, materials, and equipment.
  • Organize and maintain an efficient job site, including material storage, equipment placement, parking, and daily activity reporting.
  • Monitor field productivity and support compliance with safety, best management practices, erosion control, and required inspections.
  • Communicate effectively with Superintendents, Project Managers, owners, designers, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to resolve construction conflicts.
  • Support a strong safety culture through toolbox talks, safety meetings, and observations while maintaining confidentiality in all operations.
