Breastfeeding Peer Counselor (Part-Time)

About The Position

To provide outreach, education and support to prenatal and postpartum women; to assist the WIC program staff with implementing activities which increase the number and duration of WIC participants who breastfeed. This position will be limited to the duration of available grant funding.

Requirements

• Experience in breastfeeding as either previously or currently breastfeeding.
• Basic knowledge of the social, economic, environmental condition of clients served.
• Knowledge of the community and available resources.
• Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to learn counseling techniques and communication skills.
• Graduation from high school or equivalency.
• Must have breastfed previously or currently.
• Must complete the state approved Breastfeeding Peer Counselor training course.
• Valid North Carolina Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the management of the breastfeeding pump loan program.
• Establish relationships and maintain regular contact with prenatal and breastfeeding women who are enrolled in the program.
• Provide support and information to women who are enrolled in the breastfeeding program.
• Issue breastfeeding supplies to those enrolled in the program.
