About The Position

Hartford HealthCare Cancer Institute and Hartford Hospital seek a medical oncologist specializing in breast cancer to join a team of four breast medical oncologists. Hartford Hospital is an 867-bed tertiary care center and the flagship hospital of Hartford HealthCare. Its breast service sees more than 600 new breast cancer cases annually and provides care through a multidisciplinary team that includes fellowship-trained breast surgeons and medical and radiation oncologists, along with support from pathologists, radiologists, reconstructive surgeons, genetic counseling, and nurse navigation programs. Survivorship, high-risk care, patient education, and breast rehabilitation programs are in development. The Cancer Institute oversees oncologic care across Hartford HealthCare’s seven-hospital system. It has been a strategic partner of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center since 2014. The Breast Disease Management Team provides system-wide governance of quality, research, and innovative breast cancer program development and collaborates with its MSK counterpart. Hartford Hospital holds a weekly breast tumor board. Inpatient care is covered by hospitalist teams, with medical oncology providing consult services. The position offers opportunities to participate in teaching, clinical research, and quality and outcomes research in an academic-community healthcare system. The role is open to mid-career medical oncologists and physicians completing fellowship who are interested in breast oncology and further professional development. Hartford HealthCare also supports physician development and well-being through its Physician Leadership Development Institute and Office of Provider Wellness. This is a salaried position; compensation is described as an hourly rate in postings for consistency, but the role is paid on a salary basis. Actual compensation depends on qualifications, location, internal equity, and other factors, potentially including hiring bonuses, incentive plans, loan repayment, administrative stipends, or relocation.
