About The Position

The breast and gynecologic pathology section is one of the busiest subspecialties of the surgical pathology division at the UW-SMPH, staffed by 9 subspecialty pathologists. The team collaborates closely with 8 gynecologic oncologists, 6 breast surgeons, 4 breast oncologists, 2 radiation oncologists, and 8 breast imaging experts, all part of the NCI recognized Carbone Cancer Center and NAPBC-accredited Breast Center. The section handles approximately 12,000 breast and gynecologic specimens annually. The surgical pathology division features a modern workspace with state-of-the-art facilities, including telepathology and whole slide imaging software, and benefits from a strong in-house molecular diagnostics laboratory. Opportunities may arise for involvement in laboratory management projects, independent sign out, and resident teaching, based on the candidate's proficiency. The fellowship aims to develop academic and leadership skills essential for expertise in breast and gynecologic pathology. This is a terminal, 12-month appointment requiring onsite work at a designated campus location. The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, part of the School of Medicine and Public Health, is committed to high-quality patient care, cutting-edge research, and educating future pathologists and scientists. Requirements

  • Graduate of a certified U.S. based pathology residency program
  • Unrestricted WI Medical License required by start date
  • Board eligible or board certified in anatomic pathology (AP) or combination of anatomic pathology and clinical pathology (AP/CP) by the American Board of Pathology (ABP)
