About The Position

Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) is seeking an innovative and purpose-driven individual to join their team as a Breakthrough Manchester Advisor Coach. This part-time role involves mentoring and supporting a group of four to five dedicated advisors, who are college students mentoring high schoolers. The Advisor Coach will leverage their experience to provide critical feedback and scaffolding, aiding the advisors in their growth as educators and future leaders. The position is based in Manchester, NH, with a requirement to work on-site one Saturday per month. Most of the work can be completed remotely with flexible hours, up to 10 hours per week. The Advisor Coach will report directly to the Director of College Access Programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's in Education or a related field.
  • 2+ years of teaching or working in education with high school students.
  • Understanding of the challenges facing first-generation and underrepresented students.
  • Understanding of adolescent development, that of high school and college students, in addition to pedagogical frameworks and best teaching practices.
  • Understanding compelling strategies to communicate with high school and college students.
  • Ability to engage college students through digital mediums and platforms.
  • Ability to critically reflect upon in-person workshops to provide specific verbal and written feedback.
  • Self-motivation, self-regulation, and self-direction.
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized.

Responsibilities

  • Track all communication between dedicated advisors and their advisees to provide oversight, feedback, and accountability.
  • Reach out to the advising team once per week with logistical reminders and the Coach Calendar for the corresponding week.
  • Respond to advisor questions and comments during advising sessions, offering support.
  • Provide specific, structured feedback and support on workshops that advisors run, including pre and post review, to coach advisor progress.
  • Plan and lead two special events (campus tour and community block) as assigned per grade level, with support of the grade-level advising team.
  • Communicate with the Director about any advisor challenges, successes, or concerns.
