About The Position

The San Francisco Chronicle is seeking a Breaking News Reporting Intern for Summer 2027. This paid, 12-week internship offers training and mentoring while actively covering a variety of stories both in the office and in the field. The primary focus will be on breaking news, with opportunities to work on audience engagement projects and collaborate with data journalism, developer, and audience teams. The ideal candidate is proactive, quick to respond to developing stories, and enthusiastic about covering diverse topics such as weather, criminal justice, and public health.

Requirements

  • Full-time position
  • Based in San Francisco
  • Likely Monday-to-Friday work schedule
  • Weekend, evening, and holiday work may be required as news warrants
  • Strong writing skills
  • Strict dedication to accuracy, fairness, and inclusiveness
  • College student

Nice To Haves

  • Preference given to students studying at or recently completed a degree at a Bay Area four-year or community college
  • Strong college publication experience or previous internships preferred
