About The Position

Brazes copper to copper, copper to brass, copper to steel, and brass to brass to fabricate header bodies, distributors, and coil assemblies. Tests coil assemblies to ensure there are no leaks. Evacuates DX coils and charges with nitrogen.

Requirements

  • Ability to braze copper to copper, copper to brass, copper to steel, and brass to brass.
  • Ability to test coil assemblies for leaks.
  • Ability to evacuate DX coils and charge with nitrogen.
  • Ability to read and understand paperwork or drawings.
  • Proficiency in selecting appropriate torch, tip, filler rod, and flux.
  • Knowledge of connecting regulator valves and hoses.
  • Skill in operating a brazing torch and adjusting gas mixture and pressure.
  • Ability to guide torch and apply filler rod to form a weld.
  • Ability to examine braze joints for leaks and repair them.
  • Ability to build tall coils and assemble coil halves.
  • Ability to sign off shop floor paperwork.
  • Willingness to train new or existing employees.
  • Must wear all required personal protective equipment.
  • Must clean work area at end of shift.
  • Must report work-related injuries and near misses.
  • Must wear all required PPE and follow safety/environmental rules.
  • Must correct or report unsafe conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Obtains appropriate paperwork or drawings for each coil/header.
  • Positions header parts in jigs or fixtures on table & clamps parts together.
  • Selects torch, torch tip, filler rod and flux, according to material being brazed.
  • Connects regulator valves and hoses to oxygen and fuel gas cylinders, and brazing torch.
  • Turns regulator valves to activate flow of gases, lights torch and adjusts gas mixture and pressure, to obtain desired flame.
  • Holds torch at proper angle to metal and guides along braze joint, applying filler rod to molten area to form weld.
  • Examines braze joint for leaks.
  • Locates and repairs leaks in header or coil assembly.
  • Applies, and fills out if necessary, all required coil/header labels.
  • Builds tall coils (i.e. assembles coil halves together).
  • Signs off shop floor paperwork signifying completion of job.
  • Trains new or existing employees if necessary.
  • Wears all required personal protective equipment.
  • Cleans work area at end of shift.
  • Responsible for reporting work related injuries and near misses to supervision.
  • Responsible for wearing all required PPE and following applicable safety/environmental rules.
  • Responsible for correcting or reporting unsafe conditions observed within the plant.
