About The Position

The Virginia Spaceport Authority Internship Program offers students the opportunity to apply their education to real-world challenges through meaningful, hands-on projects. Top candidates are well-rounded students from a variety of backgrounds who demonstrate inquisitiveness, team-orientation, excellence, and resilience. At the time of application, interns must be degree-seeking students enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited educational institution on at least a half-time basis. This internship focuses on graphic design and visual branding. The intern will assist in developing graphic design projects and external VSA media, as well as other External Relations Department activities.

Requirements

• Current enrollment in an associate or bachelor’s degree program from an accredited college or university
• Major in Graphic Design, Communication, Public Relations, Marketing, or Advertising
• Formal graphic design education may be substituted for relevant job experience and vice versa.
• Valid driver's license is necessary when operating a vehicle while on agency business.
• Fundamentals of graphic design
• Knowledge of marketing and public relations principles
• Capability to turn data into attractive and readable visuals
• Aptitude for learning software
• Written and oral communication, presentation, organizational and time management skills, and attention to detail
• Must be experienced in Adobe software with intermediate Photoshop, Lightroom, Illustrator, and InDesign skills
• Must be experienced in Microsoft Office programs including Word and PowerPoint
• Must understand, follow, and promote OSHA safety guidelines in the workplace
• Demonstrated ability in active listening
• Discretion in dealing with confidential and sensitive information
• Must be able to obtain and maintain eligibility for issuance of a NASA credential.
• Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check and drug test.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with social media platforms desired

Responsibilities

• Assist in the design of digital and printed marketing materials.
• Interface with print shops to decide materials, dimensions, color, and other details regarding orders.
• Ensure proper VSA branding of presentations and documents. Design and edit PowerPoint presentations and other documents.
• Generate VSA visual media. Capture and edit photos.
• Assist in the design and implementation of awareness-raising campaigns.
• Assist in other departmental activities such as events, spaceport tours, social media campaigns, and writing/editing.
