Brand Marketing Lead

GigsSchenectady, NY
$180,000 - $240,000Hybrid

About The Position

Gigs is building the operating system for mobile services, a platform enabling tech companies to embed global connectivity into their products effortlessly. Similar to how Stripe simplifies payments, Gigs automates telecom complexity for platforms launching mobile services or offering work phone plans. The company, with around 150 employees across the US and Europe, has secured nearly $100 million in funding from prominent investors like Ribbit Capital, Google, and Y Combinator. Gigs is characterized by its rapid growth, attracting talent from leading tech companies, and is focused on solving complex technical and regulatory challenges in the telecom space. The company culture values curiosity, creativity, a willingness to tackle difficult problems, speed, ownership, customer obsession, comfort with ambiguity, and a first-principles approach to innovation.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in category creation, making a company legible before its category had a name (e.g., explaining Uber in 2013 or Airbnb in 2011).
  • Experience in positioning a company within a category, understanding the distinction between defining a space and winning it.
  • Direct experience working with founders, including ghostwriting or building the public voice of a founder or executive.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, likely with a content strategy background.
  • Experience building effective content and distribution engines that measurably grew brand awareness.
  • Experience adapting a brand narrative for different regions and understanding when to translate versus rebuild.
  • Ability to direct the full marketing mix (content, social, events, comms, design), setting briefs and evaluating work across all areas.
  • Comfort with data is a plus, but the role is judged on voice and category instinct.
  • Daily use of AI tools to improve speed, creativity, and decision-making.
  • Experience in a high-growth tech startup or agency environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Comfort with data is a plus, but this role is judged on voice and category instinct more than dashboards.

Responsibilities

  • Define the category: Develop language beyond 'embedded connectivity' that resonates as the business expands, owning the positioning, terminology, and the argument for the category's existence, and ensuring adoption by customers, press, analysts, and partners.
  • Position Gigs within the category: Ensure the narrative about the space and the narrative about Gigs are mutually reinforcing at every touchpoint.
  • Elevate founders' voices: Partner directly with founders and executives to ghostwrite and co-create thought leadership content (essays, keynotes, podcasts, social media, interviews) to align their public voice with the category argument.
  • Decide external presence: Own the external calendar for conferences, stages, podcasts, newsletters, and press, determining which opportunities are most valuable and who from Gigs should participate.
  • Adapt the story by market: Tailor the brand narrative for different regions (US, Europe, Asia), identifying what travels well, what needs reframing, and where a different approach is necessary.
  • Maintain brand consistency with Design: Collaborate closely with the Design team to ensure a sharp and consistent brand look and feel across all formats (website, presentations, stage, social media, events).
  • Work across the company: Ensure coherence in messaging across Growth Marketing, Product, Partner Marketing, and leverage partner platforms for distribution of the category narrative.
  • Direct the wider marketing mix: Set briefs for and evaluate performance of events, AI-driven initiatives, and internal communications, focusing deeply on key areas and directing specialists and agencies for others.
  • Leverage AI: Utilize AI tools daily to enhance speed, creativity, and decision-making, and help shape Gigs' representation, discovery, and recommendations across LLMs and emerging AI channels.
