This is an individual-contributor role for an art- and visual-first designer with strong conceptual instincts, emerging art-direction skills and rigorous craft. The right person can take a clear brief and creative direction, develop thoughtful visual solutions and carry assigned work through execution across digital, print and physical experiences. The Museum of Ice Cream Marketing team is a nimble, high-impact group focused on driving cultural relevance, visitation and revenue growth. This role sits within the Creative team, reports to the Creative Director and works closely with Social, Growth, Lifecycle, Partnerships, Production, Experience Design and museum teams.

Requirements

  • 5-7 years of experience in brand design, campaign design or art direction, including experience within an advertising, design or creative agency and work for consumer-facing brands.
  • A strong, art- and visual-first portfolio demonstrating conceptual thinking and polished hands-on execution across several of the following: advertising, social, website and digital experiences, out-of-home, brand partnerships or physical experiences. The portfolio must clearly show work the candidate personally designed.
  • Experience contributing to visual identities, brand systems or guidelines and applying them consistently across channels and formats.
  • Strong visual instincts and experience contributing to the art direction of photography, film, motion, illustration or experiential work.
  • Strong typography, layout, composition and image-making judgment, with the ability to create fresh work within a recognizable brand.
  • Expertise in Adobe Creative Cloud and Figma.
  • The ability to present ideas clearly, explain design decisions and use feedback to strengthen the work.
  • Strong organization and follow-through, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and move comfortably between concept development, design and hands-on production.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience independently leading smaller shoots or defined workstreams is a plus.
  • Motion, video, retouching, illustration or presentation-design capabilities are valuable additions.

  • Develop and articulate visual directions for assigned projects.
  • Support or lead defined aspects of photography, film, illustration, motion and experiential execution with guidance from the Creative Director or Senior Designer.
  • Partner with the Creative Director, writers, producers, marketers and fellow designers to create cohesive, insight-driven work and strengthen ideas through every stage of development.
  • Translate a strong campaign idea into a coherent visual system across advertising, social, lifecycle, digital, out-of-home, partnerships, retail and physical experiences.
  • Support the Creative Director and Senior Designer in evolving MOIC’s visual system.
  • Help translate new direction into clear guidelines, templates and tools, apply the system across real work and identify where it needs clarification.
  • Personally design, adapt and quality-check work, including layouts, presentations, digital assets for web, environmental graphics, retouching, prepress, production specifications and vendor-ready files.
  • Design and iterate static and motion assets for paid media, landing pages, email and other conversion-focused channels, using performance insights to improve the work.
  • Work closely with Growth, Lifecycle, Social, Partnerships and museum teams to understand the business objective, audience, channel and experience behind each assignment.
  • Apply MOIC’s evolving visual system consistently and help improve the tools used by internal teams, agencies, partners and vendors.
  • Work with the Senior Creative Producer, photographers, directors, illustrators, printers, fabricators and other specialists to ensure execution meets the creative intent and technical requirements.
