About The Position

DNAnexus is seeking a Director, Brand & Creative to own and lead the company's brand vision. This role requires a creative leader with strong taste, modern tool proficiency (including AI), and the ability to build alignment and influence within a team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing and executing high-quality creative assets for sophisticated scientific and technology audiences, ensuring the brand's coherence and impact across all touchpoints.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of brand, creative, or design experience.
  • At least 3 years operating at a director level or equivalent scope.
  • A portfolio demonstrating strong brand management and original creative across multiple formats and channels.
  • Proven track record leading cross-functional brand initiatives with operational rigor, managing projects from strategy through execution, stakeholder alignment, and on-time delivery without compromising creative quality.
  • Hands-on proficiency with AI creative tools (Midjourney, Adobe Firefly, ChatGPT/Claude creative, or comparable) integrated into a creative workflow.
  • Deep fluency in the Adobe Creative Suite and/or Figma.
  • Experience translating technical or complex subject matter into compelling visual and written communication.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead without authority, earning trust, driving alignment, and influencing creative decisions through expertise and collaboration.
  • Ability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously, deliver to deadline, and keep cross-functional partners informed and aligned.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in life sciences, healthcare, biotech, or enterprise SaaS.
  • Motion design or video production experience.
  • Familiarity with brand work for scientific or research-driven audiences.
  • Experience managing or directing agency and contractor relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Own and steward the DNAnexus visual identity across all touchpoints (web, digital, events, campaigns, product marketing, company store, executive communications).
  • Evolve the brand system to ensure it scales with company growth while maintaining coherence and character.
  • Serve as the final creative authority on all outgoing DNAnexus materials.
  • Concept, design, and deliver high-quality creative assets for campaigns, digital platforms, events, product marketing, and executive communications.
  • Direct and evaluate work from agencies and contractors with a clear creative point of view.
  • Translate complex scientific and technical narratives into compelling visual and written stories for both scientific and business audiences.
  • Utilize AI and other modern tools to enhance creative output pace and quality.
  • Stay current on AI creative trends and integrate best practices into team operations.
  • Drive strategic brand initiatives from brief to launch in partnership with Product Marketing, Demand Gen, and Executive teams.
  • Apply operational rigor to creative work, managing timelines, stakeholder alignment, and progress tracking.
  • Contribute creative perspectives to campaign strategy and positioning.
  • Act as a trusted advisor on brand decisions, influencing stakeholders and managing pushback or flexibility as needed.
  • Translate brand strategy into actionable workplans for other teams.
