About The Position

The Branch Manager is responsible for the overall operation and performance of a Metro Trailer Leasing branch. This position oversees day-to-day branch activities, including customer service, trailer rentals and leases, equipment availability, yard operations, maintenance coordination, employee performance, expense management, and business development. The Branch Manager is expected to maintain a strong understanding of the branch’s fleet, customer base, local transportation market, and financial performance. A major focus of the role is keeping equipment properly positioned, available, and on rent while ensuring customers receive responsive and dependable service. This position works closely with sales, operations, maintenance, accounting, and corporate management to maximize equipment utilization, control costs, grow revenue, and maintain a safe and efficient branch operation.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; college degree preferred.
  • Previous management experience in transportation, equipment rental, trailer leasing, trucking, logistics, or a related industry.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead employees and manage daily business operations.
  • Strong customer service and relationship-management skills.
  • Ability to understand financial and operational performance, including revenue, expenses, equipment utilization, and branch profitability.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to manage employees across sales, customer service, operations, yard, and maintenance functions.
  • A strong understanding of equipment utilization and fleet management is important because much of the branch’s success depends on having the right trailers in the right market and keeping available equipment working and generating revenue.
  • Financial and analytical skills are also important for evaluating branch revenue, expenses, repair costs, utilization, and overall profitability.
  • Strong customer service and sales skills help the Branch Manager maintain existing relationships and identify opportunities to grow the branch.
  • The position also requires excellent organization, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • The Branch Manager must be comfortable making day-to-day operating decisions, handling customer issues, coordinating equipment and repairs, and keeping corporate management informed of significant opportunities or concerns.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in commercial trailer rental or leasing.
  • Experience managing a branch, terminal, rental operation, or transportation facility.
  • Familiarity with dry vans, flatbeds, reefers, storage trailers, and other commercial transportation equipment.
  • Business-to-business sales or account-management experience.
  • Experience with fleet-management, rental, leasing, CRM, or transportation software.
  • Experience managing maintenance operations, equipment inventories, and vendor relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all daily branch operations and ensure the branch operates safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company policies.
  • Lead, supervise, train, and develop branch employees while maintaining clear expectations and accountability.
  • Monitor trailer inventory, equipment availability, and utilization, and work to keep equipment properly positioned and on rent.
  • Oversee rental and lease activity, including equipment assignments, customer pickups, returns, inspections, and related documentation.
  • Maintain strong relationships with existing customers and assist in developing new business within the local market.
  • Work with sales personnel to identify available equipment, respond to customer needs, prepare solutions, and close rental and leasing opportunities.
  • Monitor branch revenue, expenses, utilization, repair costs, and other key operating measures.
  • Identify underutilized or excess equipment and coordinate transfers or other actions to improve fleet productivity.
  • Ensure returned equipment is inspected promptly and coordinate necessary repairs so that trailers can be returned to rental-ready condition.
  • Oversee branch maintenance activity and work with technicians, vendors, and corporate personnel to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Maintain an organized and safe yard, shop, and office environment.
  • Ensure trailers and other equipment are properly documented and accounted for at all times.
  • Address customer concerns and resolve service issues promptly and professionally.
  • Review outstanding customer matters and work with appropriate departments to help resolve billing, documentation, or account issues.
  • Manage branch operating expenses and approve purchases and repairs in accordance with company policies.
  • Ensure compliance with company safety procedures and applicable transportation and workplace requirements.
  • Maintain awareness of local market conditions, competitor activity, equipment demand, and customer trends.
  • Communicate regularly with corporate management regarding branch performance, equipment needs, staffing, customer opportunities, and operational concerns.
