About The Position

The Branch Manager participates in the District Leadership team to develop strategy and make decisions. They lead all aspects of a community branch library within a small library system. The manager performs professional, managerial level work under the general direction of the Library Director. They also work as a professional librarian to provide direct public service to the patrons of the service district. Teamwork, communication and personal integrity are essential to the success of this position.

Requirements

  • Completion of a Master of Library and Information Science degree from an American Library Association accredited institution required.
  • Three years of professional public library work experience required.
  • Direct supervision of 2-4 librarians, indirect supervision of 5-10 staff and/or volunteers.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a member of the leadership team, supporting initiatives of customer service, collection maintenance and programming.
  • Advocate for library services.
  • Manage library services, staffing and training for the branch and across the district.
  • Present staff meetings and deliver effective staff communications.
  • Support the Director with Board of Trustees administration including reporting, meeting preparation, minutes documentation and vacancy announcements.
  • Respond to patron comments and suggestions.
  • Manage escalated patron needs.
  • Support staff in carrying out Colorado library laws and regulations.
  • Guide staff to deliver excellent customer service using documented procedures.
  • Participate in the recruitment and selection of staff.
  • Work with assigned staff in evaluation, recognition and accountability.
  • Oversee branch projects such as renovation, repair, capital improvement and new construction.
  • Oversee branch maintenance service work.
  • Ensure safe conditions for staff, public, and building operation.
  • Take appropriate action in building and systems emergencies.
  • Administer facility systems for alarm, security, elevator, telephone, automatic doors, knox box and keys as well as manage malfunction solutions.
  • Take ownership of branch appearance including signage, flyers, furniture arrangement and material displays.
  • Follow policies and procedures for the library’s financial management, including budgeting, procurement, contracts and reimbursement for assigned financial line items.
  • Develop a multi-year strategy for those assignments.
  • Maintain facility supplies and equipment with appropriate inventory levels.
  • Develop and deliver training sessions to staff in their area of expertise.
  • Assume responsibility for library operations in the absence of the Director.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities.
  • Support staff in outreach service procedures and provide standard library services during outreach events, including bookmobile operations.
