About The Position

Martin County is currently accepting applications for a part-time Branch Librarian for the Truman, MN branch location. This position is scheduled twenty (20) hours per week, Monday through Friday, 1:30 PM until 5:30 PM. The Branch Librarian is solely responsible for the operations of a branch library under the supervision of the Library Director, including circulation, reference and interlibrary loan as well as planning and implementing activities for all patrons.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Less than one year of progressive experience in related field along with the skills, knowledge and abilities required.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Considerable knowledge of the library’s customer service function and the ability to respond to and serve patrons in an effective, efficient and helpful manner.
  • Considerable knowledge of general library operations.
  • Ability to operate computers, tablets and mobile devices and other general office equipment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to learn new software programs and web-based systems as necessary.
  • Ability to plan and execute theme related reading programs.
  • Ability to adapt with frequent interruptions throughout the completion of duties.
  • Takes personal responsibility for the quality and timeliness of work, and achieves results with limited oversight.
  • Follows instructions and adheres to all County policies and procedures as required.
  • Maintains an acceptable record of work attendance and punctuality in accordance with County and Department requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Assists patrons in all aspects of library use, including patrons with varying socioeconomic backgrounds and intellectual abilities.
  • Advises patrons on how to find materials using the online catalog and within the library itself.
  • Assists patrons with the use of e-collections and public access computers.
  • Uses the library’s automated system to fulfill library functions including circulation, reference, and interlibrary loan.
  • Includes issuing library cards and processing library fees.
  • Shelves all library materials, keeps the library in good order and processes the mail.
  • Enforces library policy and responds to alarms as necessary.
  • Maintains awareness of patron activity and responds accordingly.
  • Plans and executes the summer reading programs, story time, contests, adult reading programs and other programs promoting the library.
  • Tracks and reports statistics and records pertaining to the branch.
  • Conducts outreach marketing highlighting the services of the library known to the community through publicity releases, window displays, and presentations, in coordination with the library director.
  • Opens and closes library in a timely manner.
  • Maintains order in the library.
  • Maintains awareness of patron activity and responds accordingly.
  • Responds to alarms as necessary.
  • Enforces library policy.
  • Performs other work-related duties as required.
