About The Position

This position supports the BIAC mission by providing a person-centered approach and trauma-informed care to individuals with brain injuries. As a Brain Injury Advisor, working one-on-one with clients in a mentor/coach capacity to develop or refine client skills. This position serves Southern Colorado and requires the staff live in this region.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience, in a related field.
  • Experience teaching life skills such as organization, financial management, healthy lifestyle, social skills, job skills, computer, and internet usage.
  • Experience working with people with cognitive disabilities and/or behavioral health challenges.
  • Completion of Brain Injury Specialist Certification—or Brain Injury Fundamentals training as an alternative—is required within one year of hire. Training will be provided by BIAC.
  • Can read and interpret documents.
  • Can draft routine reports and correspondence.
  • Can speak effectively before groups.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual (English and Spanish.)
  • Experience navigating systems in a human services, case management, social work, or other applicable setting.
  • Knowledge of community, state, and federal resources for brain injury, disability, or human services specific to the region this position serves.

Responsibilities

  • Offer guidance, support, and encouragement while helping clients develop the skills needed to manage functional tasks and strengthen self-management capabilities.
  • Meet one on one with clients for an average of one hour per week in their home, in the community, or virtually via phone or video chat.
  • Serve around eight (8) unique clients every six months.
  • Successfully teach clients how to develop, grow and practice functional tasks focusing on three key areas: Personal, Home, and Vocational skills.
  • Work with clients to identify and draw upon natural supports to ensure long-term sustainability of skill development.
  • Be a constant source of encouragement by helping clients to recognize and own their progress and successes. Acknowledge and celebrate effort and accomplishments.
  • Maintain complete and accurate client records in the database.
  • Update case notes and include duration, type of contact, summary of activities, and progress at the appropriate time intervals (this includes updating the Goal Attainment Scale (GAS) and Confidence scores at the appropriate time intervals).
  • Open client cases with achievable goals to address client needs, documenting summary of activity within 48 hours of interaction.
  • As appropriate, inform, refer, and help clients enroll in other BIAC services which may include, but are not limited to recreation programs, classes and workshops, educational materials, and support groups.
