About The Position

Gallaudet University, a federally chartered institution since 1864, is a bilingual, diverse, and multicultural university dedicated to the advancement of Deaf and hard of hearing individuals. The Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center, part of Gallaudet, operates exemplary educational programs and national outreach initiatives. This role is for a Fixed Term, Hourly, Non-Exempt Boys Volleyball Assistant Coach within the MSSD Athletics department. The primary responsibility is to assist the Head Coach in developing and implementing an exemplary athletic program that supports the education of student-athletes.

Requirements

  • Knowledge & Experience in Volleyball
  • Volleyball Coaching Experience
  • Knowledge and Understanding of High School Aged Students
  • Must undergo and pay for a background investigation and be cleared before starting the first day on the job.
  • Background Check and Gallaudet Student Conduct Office Records must be in good standing.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate the improvement and development of athletic skills and team performance for Volleyball student athletes.
  • Assume the responsibilities of the Head Coach in their absence, ensuring seamless operation of team activities.
  • Stay updated on new trends, ideas, and techniques in volleyball coaching.
  • Promote the value of physical fitness, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
  • Develop training programs and game plans for the team.
  • Ensure all athletic activities adhere to the regulations set forth by DCSAA, PVAC, and NDIAA.
  • Ensure compliance with district policies and regulations.
  • Monitor student-athlete eligibility and adherence to training and behavior standards.
  • Establish and communicate team rules to players and parents, ensuring fair enforcement.
  • Adhere to supervising student-athletes, emergency protocols, the student code of conduct, and safety protocols across all activities, including but not limited to locker room and bus safety, to ensure their safety and well-being.
  • Promptly report any injuries and incidents, including but not limited to discrimination, bullying, harassment, and hazing, to Athletic Coordinators and Athletic Director.
  • Communicate effectively with every member of the school district and community.
  • Cultivate positive public relations for the Volleyball program through program development, presentations, and media communication.
  • Work effectively with the team in fundraising efforts to earn funds for travel, food, sports attire, and equipment.
  • React productively to change and handle other assigned tasks.
  • Support the value of education.
  • Support the philosophy and vision of the MSSD Athletics Department.
  • Attend the mandatory MSSD Coaches Orientation and Sports Awards Banquet.
  • Adhere to district health and safety policies at all times.
  • Establishes and maintains a positive and supportive working relationship with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Demonstrates a genuine commitment to belonging in the workplace and participates in activities and workshops to foster continuous learning.
  • Serves as a mandatory reporter under Title IX; and commits to completing Title IX training and other compliance requirements on an annual basis.
  • Prioritizes safety in the workplace as a collective responsibility for the well-being of employees and fosters a culture of safety that is integral to our success, including strict adherence to safety procedures and protocols, as well as promptly reporting any safety hazards or incidents.
  • Perform related and other duties as needed.
