About The Position

MaST Community Charter School is seeking a Boys Soccer Head Coach for their High School team. The season runs from mid-August through October, with potential playoff extensions into November. This role requires a significant time commitment during the season, including practices and games 5-6 days a week, with availability starting at 1:30 PM for away games and early evenings for most games. The coach will also lead team initiatives such as fundraisers and events, and facilitate off-season workouts. The school is a member of PIAA and plays in the Bicentennial Athletic League. The position requires up-to-date school clearances, CPR/AED/First Aid certification (provided by the school), and completion of an online coach certification class (paid for by the school). The coach will report to the Athletic Director and is responsible for organizing, coordinating, and promoting a comprehensive athletic program, providing effective leadership, and serving as a positive role model for students. The coach will supervise all participating students and any assistant coaches.

Requirements

  • Appropriate Pennsylvania Department of Education Certification.
  • Strong knowledge base of the sport.
  • Must have valid PA driver's license.
  • Up-to-date school clearances required prior to the season starting.
  • Must obtain CPR/AED/First Aid certification.
  • Willing to complete online coach certification class.

  • Previous coaching experience of the sport preferred.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the administrator may deem appropriate.

Responsibilities

  • Holds organizational meetings for team prospects and encourages potential athletes to participate in the sport.
  • Assesses players’ skills and assigns team positions.
  • Develops a regular practice schedule and organizes practice time to provide both individual and team development.
  • Works with the Athletic Director in scheduling facilities for practices and competition.
  • Assigns duties to an assistant coach as necessary.
  • Coaches and instructs players, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
  • Observes players during competition and practice to determine the needs for individual or team improvement.
  • Determines game strategy based on the team’s capabilities.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior and provides proper supervision of athletes at all times.
  • Monitors the academic performance of team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met and encourages student athletes to maintain a high academic standard.
  • Follows established school procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury.
  • Conferences with parents/guardians, as necessary, regarding the athletic performance of their student.
  • Follows league, state, regional, and district regulations governing the athletic program.
  • Models sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators.
  • Acts as a team representative and promotes the sport by communicating with the news media and other appropriate parties.
  • Follows established procedures for the proper care, maintenance, and requisitioning of equipment, supplies, and uniforms.
  • Works with the athletic director to develop a policy for awards and submits a list of award winners at the end of the season.
  • Participates in special activities that includes parent’s night, banquets, and pep assemblies (where applicable).
  • Maintains eligibility forms, emergency data cards, equipment inventory, uniform inventory, and other related records.
  • Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
  • Provides annual budgetary needs to the Athletic Director and follows all financial procedures set forth by the school.
  • Communicates to all participants the policies of the team, school, and Board of Trustees, relating to school sponsored activities (per regulations on Student Responsibilities and Rights and Extra-Curricular Activities).
  • Submits and maintains all required forms necessary on the league, district, and state level.
  • Establishes procedures for communicating with parents/guardians.
  • Provides an atmosphere conducive to good sportsmanship and compiles and maintain accurate individual and team performance records for future needs.
  • Instructs participants in safety procedures and in the need to report injuries to the coach and/or trainer immediately; implement appropriate procedures for handling injury situations; ensure the availability of a properly supplied first aid kit and emergency care cards at all times.
  • Maintains as close to a five-days-per-week schedule of practices and games as possible that is understandably adjusted for facility and resource availability.
  • Encourages and facilitates off-season workouts, camps, and programs to promote continued student development.
  • Aids in the recruitment process for students moving to the collegiate level where applicable.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Athletic Director and Principal.
