About The Position

The Boys Basketball JV Coach is responsible for educating and inspiring student-athletes to be the best version of themselves. This role operates under the direction of the Head Basketball Coach and the Director of Athletics, ensuring that all activities align with the broader EHS Athletics program and educational principles. The coach plays a crucial role in developing athletes both on and off the court, fostering sportsmanship, and maintaining program standards.

Requirements

Knowledge of basketball and its rules.
Ability to instruct players in all facets of the sport.
Evidence of ability to get along with pupils, parents, colleagues, and other citizens.
CPR Certification
Completion of the MIAA Coaches Education Class and/or other requirements by the MIAA

Nice To Haves

Previous basketball coaching experience is desirable.
Previous experience in either high school, college or both is desirable.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college preferred.

Responsibilities

Coach individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the sport.
Maintain accurate records of team lists, injury reports, scores, stats, incident reports, and physical examinations.
Be available throughout the school year to provide guidance and counseling to team members regarding scholastic achievement, college entrance, and citizenship.
Determine athlete's academic eligibility.
Be responsible for understanding and adhering to the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) Handbook and the EHS Student Handbook.
Oversee the safety conditions of the facility and playing area at all times students are present.
Be present at each practice session and all contests, including supervision of the weight room, locker room, and shower areas before and after practices/contests, and during bus trips.
Enforce discipline and encourage sportsmanship-like behavior according to Principal and Athletic Department standards.
Attend all Athletic Department and EHS meetings relevant to the sport, including MIAA, GBL, Coaches Associations, and Athletic Awards meetings.
Stay informed of rule changes, trends, and recommendations affecting the sport.
Provide personal support to the entire EHS staff, including principals and teachers.
Establish communication with other adults to identify potential resources for enhancing EHS athletics.
Directly supervise team members at home and away contests.
Assist in the distribution and collection of all uniforms and equipment.
Ensure equipment not returned by team members is accounted for.
Perform other duties as assigned by the head coach or athletic director in the best interest of the sport, pupil, and school.
