About The Position

The Boys Basketball Head Coach at MaST Community Charter School is responsible for organizing, coordinating, and promoting a comprehensive athletic program. This role requires leadership to ensure a positive learning environment that emphasizes academic achievement and ethical conduct. The coach will supervise students and any assistant coaches, acting as a positive role model. The position involves a significant time commitment during the season, including after-school practices, games (some Saturdays), and evening availability. The coach will also lead team initiatives such as fundraisers and off-season workouts, and must possess a valid PA driver's license to drive a school van.

Requirements

Possession of PA mandated coaching education certification or willingness to obtain the certification (provided by the school).
Possession of CPR/First Aid/AED certification or willingness to obtain the certification (provided by the school).
Strong knowledge base of the sport.
Valid PA driver's license.
Ability to drive a school van to practices and games.

Responsibilities

Holds organizational meetings for team prospects and encourages participation.
Assesses players’ skills and assigns team positions.
Develops a regular practice schedule and organizes practice time for individual and team development.
Works with the Athletic Director in scheduling facilities for practices and competition.
Assigns duties to an assistant coach as necessary.
Coaches and instructs players on the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
Observes players during competition and practice to identify areas for improvement.
Determines game strategy based on the team’s capabilities.
Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior and provides proper supervision of athletes.
Monitors the academic performance of team members to ensure eligibility requirements are met and encourages high academic standards.
Follows established school procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury.
Conferences with parents/guardians regarding athletic performance.
Follows league, state, regional, and district regulations governing the athletic program.
Models sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct.
Acts as a team representative and promotes the sport.
Follows established procedures for the proper care, maintenance, and requisitioning of equipment, supplies, and uniforms.
Works with the athletic director to develop a policy for awards and submits a list of award winners.
Participates in special activities such as parent’s night, banquets, and pep assemblies.
Maintains eligibility forms, emergency data cards, equipment inventory, uniform inventory, and other related records.
Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
Provides annual budgetary needs to the Athletic Director and follows all financial procedures.
Communicates team, school, and Board of Trustees policies to participants.
Submits and maintains all required league, district, and state level forms.
Establishes procedures for communicating with parents/guardians.
Provides an atmosphere conducive to good sportsmanship and compiles accurate performance records.
Instructs participants in safety procedures and injury reporting; implements appropriate injury handling procedures; ensures availability of a first aid kit and emergency care cards.
Maintains a schedule of practices and games, adjusted for facility and resource availability.
Encourages and facilitates off-season workouts, camps, and programs.
Aids in the recruitment process for students moving to the collegiate level.
Performs other related duties as assigned by the Athletic Director and Principal.
