About The Position

Waterford Public Schools has an immediate vacancy for a team-oriented individual. Waterford Public Schools is seeking a Boys and Girls Volleyball Coach at Clark Lane Middle School. Waterford Public Schools serves approximately 2,400 students in grades PK-12. The Waterford Board of Education is a nine-member elected body. The Head Coach is responsible for the overall leadership, development, and management of the Middle School Girls Volleyball program. This role involves overseeing both "Blue" and "Black" teams, fostering a competitive yet supportive environment, and serving as the primary liaison between the middle school program, parents, and the high school coaching staff.

Requirements

  • Previous coaching experience (Middle School or Club level preferred)
  • A deep understanding of volleyball rules and strategies.
  • Ability to demonstrate proper volleyball mechanics and run efficient, high-energy drills.
  • Proven ability to manage logistics for large-scale sporting events and multi-team schedules.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate middle-school-aged athletes and manage student volunteers.
  • First Aid/CPR/AED Certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • CIAC Coaching certification

Responsibilities

  • Design and execute daily practice plans that prioritize fundamental skill development (passing, setting, hitting, serving) and court awareness.
  • Manage player rotations and game strategies for two distinct squads, ensuring developmental growth and competitive refinement for all team players.
  • Transition drills from practice into "live-game" scenarios, teaching defensive systems and offensive transitions.
  • Organize and host multiple multi-team competitions. This includes coordinating court assignments, officiating schedules, and hospitality for visiting teams.
  • Oversee set-up and take-down of equipment (nets, poles, scoreboards) for all home matches and hosted events.
  • Coordinate with the High School Volleyball Head Coach to recruit student volunteers/managers.
  • Mentor these high school assistants to ensure they are contributing effectively to practices.
  • Maintain clear, professional, and timely communication with parents and school administration regarding schedules, expectations, and player progress.
  • Align middle school drills and terminology with the High School program to ensure a seamless transition for student-athletes.
