About The Position

The Borough Lead, Brooklyn position is within the Office of the Mass Engagement (OME) of the New York City Mayor’s Office. The OME is responsible for strategizing, coordinating, and executing engagement initiatives that reach everyday New Yorkers, aiming to involve them in policy outcomes, demystify government, and ensure accountability. This role is part of a long-term project to build the power of New Yorkers and create a city that works for everyone. The Borough Lead will assist in maintaining key relationships, identifying organizing opportunities, building engagement layers, attending community events, following up on constituent cases, supporting the Deputy Borough Director/Borough Manager in emergency situations, and advancing OME initiatives within the borough.

Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
  • High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
  • Education and/or experience which is equivalent to '1' or '2' above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in '1' above.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Deputy Borough Director and/or Borough Manager with maintaining key relationships in the borough and track high level issues within the borough.
  • Work with other staff to help identify and maintain organizing opportunities in the borough.
  • Help with building layers of engagement throughout the borough.
  • Attend relevant civic, community board, community meetings, and other events.
  • When relevant, ensure follow-up on constituent cases.
  • In emergency situations, support the Deputy Borough Director and/or Borough Manager, who might be asked to be on the scene to represent the Mayor’s Office. Emergency situations include, but are not limited to, blackouts, tragic deaths, high-profile crimes, fires where citizens are impacted, and water main breaks or street collapses where citizens are evacuated from their homes.
  • Help move Office of Mass Engagement initiatives forward with their borough team.
  • Providing additional support as necessary.
