About The Position

We are currently seeking a Boring Mill Machinist to join our team in Williston. Reporting to the Production Director, the Boring Mill Machinist will be responsible for setting up and operating manual horizontal boring mills to machine valve components and related parts in accordance with production orders, drawings, quality requirements, and customer specifications. In this role, the Boring Mill Machinist will work with close tolerances, perform required calculations, select appropriate speeds and feeds, and ensure work is completed safely, accurately, and efficiently. Success in this position will require strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, adherence to established production and quality procedures, and the ability to maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Horizontal Boring Mill Machinist in the set up and operation of manual horizontal boring mills with the proven knowledge to function as a Boring Mill Machinist
  • All work associated with this position must be performed in accordance with Velan HSE requirements, Company Rules and Policies, applicable quality procedures, and the CBA.
  • Must be able to work from production orders, QCIs, drawings, and written instructions, and follow established machining, inspection, and production requirements.
  • May be required to provide guidance, orientation, or instruction to other employees on manual horizontal boring mill operations, as assigned.
  • Applicants may be required to pass a written and/or practical assessment to demonstrate the knowledge and skills required for the position.
  • May be required to perform minor upkeep, basic machine care, and report machine malfunctions, tooling issues, or maintenance concerns promptly.
  • Required to maintain good housekeeping practices, keep the work area clean and organized, and support safe and efficient production activities.
  • Must be able to perform work requiring occasional medium to heavy physical effort, including handling components, tools, fixtures, and related equipment as required.
  • May be required to have appropriate personal hand tools available as required for the job.

Responsibilities

  • Working from production orders, QCIs, drawings, and other written instructions the operator must set up and operate any manual horizontal boring mill to produce parts to acceptable standards.
  • This will include but is not limited to; machining close tolerance diameters, angles, and radii with an acceptable finish to drawing and Production Order requirements.
  • Must possess a strong knowledge of drawing conventions and shop math including trigonometry and must be able to produce angles and tapers from reference points.
  • Must be able to calculate speeds and feeds as necessary to produce acceptable work at an acceptable pace.
  • Must be able to operate all facets of manual Horizontal Boring Mill operations, including but not limited to, all types Buttweld End Connections with minimal instruction.
