About The Position

Georgia Military College announces an opening for the Bookstore Director. The Bookstore Director provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for Georgia Military College bookstore operations across all campuses and distant learning center locations. Responsible for bookstore operational leadership, retail operations, e-commerce and online bookstore operations, customer service standards, inventory oversight, staffing leadership, satellite retail operations, and auxiliary retail initiatives. This position oversees bookstore operational performance, merchandising strategy, vendor relationships, financial and operational planning, staffing structures, and the continued development of sustainable retail models including micro-markets, online retail operations, and satellite bookstore services. The Director supports institutional instructional material strategies and textbook affordability initiatives through bookstore leadership staff while ensuring students, faculty, staff, and visitors have reliable, timely, and affordable access to bookstore services and instructional materials across the institution.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 5–7 years of retail operations, bookstore operations, inventory management, customer service, or related operational leadership experience
  • Knowledge of retail operations, instructional material processes, inventory management, and customer service operations
  • Knowledge of POS systems, inventory systems, e-commerce platforms, and operational reporting systems
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and operational management skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong customer service and relationship management skills
  • Ability to supervise, train, and support operational leadership staff and frontline personnel
  • Ability to coordinate operations across multiple campuses and instructional locations
  • Ability to analyze operational workflows and implement process improvements
  • Ability to manage multiple operational priorities and deadlines simultaneously
  • Ability to support budgeting, inventory planning, and operational reporting functions
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, spreadsheets, email, and operational software systems
  • Ability to assist with merchandising, inventory organization, and retail presentation
  • Ability to lift and move merchandise and inventory up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's or Master’s Degree in Business, Retail Management, Operations, Higher Education Administration, or related field
  • Experience in higher education bookstore operations, instructional materials management, e-commerce operations, auxiliary services, retail management, or multi-site operational leadership
  • Experience with collegiate bookstore systems and instructional material platforms
  • Experience supporting e-commerce and online retail fulfillment operations
  • Experience with textbook affordability initiatives and digital instructional material programs

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for bookstore operations across Georgia Military College campuses and distant learning center locations, including retail operations, customer service standards, inventory oversight, POS systems, operational workflows, and bookstore service delivery.
  • Provide oversight and strategic direction for instructional materials operations, textbook affordability initiatives, inclusive access and digital materials programs, vendor relationships, and institutional bookstore support activities while supervising bookstore leadership staff responsible for day-to-day adoption and inventory coordination processes.
  • Direct bookstore retail and e-commerce operations including online bookstore management, merchandising strategy, uniforms, novelty merchandise, school supplies, inventory controls, customer service initiatives, and support for online order fulfillment operations.
  • Supervise bookstore leadership and operational support personnel, including the Assistant Director, Instructional Materials & Retail Operations, Bookstore Sales Associates, PT bookstore employees, and Federal Work Study students, by providing operational direction, training, scheduling oversight, staffing coordination, and performance management support.
  • Manage bookstore financial and operational administration including budgeting support, operational reporting, inventory reconciliation, purchasing oversight, vendor coordination, deposits, and bookstore operational planning.
  • Support institutional events, auxiliary initiatives, strategic planning efforts, and additional operational projects related to bookstore services, student engagement, retail operations, and auxiliary growth opportunities.
