A Bookseller is an integral member of the Barnes & Noble bookselling team, welcoming customers, answering questions, and helping readers find suitable titles and products. The role also supports the attractive presentation and efficient operation of the store by unpacking and shelving deliveries, maintaining displays, and operating registers to provide quick, professional customer service. Booksellers are expected to demonstrate reliable attendance, flexibility in responding to store scheduling needs, a positive and energetic approach to assigned work, consideration for colleagues, cheerful customer service, willingness to learn, and enjoyment of bookselling. The position includes learning and applying operational skills such as using store technology, merchandising books and other products, operating registers, receiving and shelving deliveries, locating products using store resources, assisting the café team when needed, and following loss prevention and de-escalation procedures. As their knowledge develops, Booksellers build familiarity with fiction, nonfiction, children’s books, and other store categories. They use this knowledge to maintain sections and backstock, present products attractively, make recommendations, assist customers, and support sales initiatives and new releases. Booksellers may work in other stores when able and when needed to support the wider Cluster. They are expected to comply with company policies and procedures and may advance to Senior Bookseller as they master the role’s skills.
