About The Position

Spokane Public Schools is seeking a Bookkeeper to join their team at Ferris High School. This role is crucial in maintaining a loving and collaborative learning community where all students can thrive. The Bookkeeper will perform varied clerical and secretarial duties related to bookkeeping practices, requiring a basic understanding of office routines and the organization's programs and procedures. This position involves close and responsive interaction with the day-to-day activities of the site and administrative staff, working with minimal supervision. This is a continuing, school-year position (204 days/10 months) with 8-hour days, operating from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. The anticipated start date is as soon as possible.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum two years of recent bookkeeping work experience
  • Ability to accurately type 40 words per minute
  • Demonstrated accuracy in record keeping skills including use of ten-key and cash handling

Nice To Haves

  • Additional business course work preferred
  • Basic level knowledge of general computer skills, including Microsoft office programs, student information system (i.e., PowerSchool), nutrition services point of sale software (i.e., Mosaic), financial software (i.e., Intouch), employee database (IFAS), single point of entry software, and spreadsheet programs experience preferred
  • First Aid card preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the operation of administrative and student offices in support of school and staff, ensuring a positive, professional image. This includes greeting students, staff, visitors and callers, handling their inquiries, and directing them to the appropriate persons according to their needs.
  • Provide administrative support and ensure efficient operation of the business office. Duties may include accounts payable/receivable operations, ordering materials and supplies, sales assistance, answering phone inquiries, and distribution of student/staff parking passes.
  • Facilitate the development of an Associated Student Body (ASB) budget and coordinate all transactions concerning income and expenditures, including collection and distribution of ASB monies while following District guidelines regarding state laws related to use of public funds. Assist in training advisors on annual budget preparation.
  • Receives monies collected at site, maintain records and perform deposits; including lunch account deposits and follow-up with reminders for low/no balance student accounts.
  • Provide financial and statistical support to assistant principals, activities, and business manager via computer or other medium.
  • Issue vouchers, purchase orders, and requisitions, in accordance with proper accounting procedure.
  • Assist with minor medical injuries, illnesses and may administer medication for students.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
