About The Position

The Northwestern Regional Adult Detention Center is looking for a Booking Technician to join their dedicated team. This entry-level position offers the opportunity to work in a secure facility, providing essential administrative support and interacting with inmates during booking and release processes. Requirements

  • Must possess a high school or general education diploma.
  • Adaptability to Secure Environments: Ability to perform responsibilities effectively within a correctional center, including professional interactions with inmates as part of daily operations.
  • Strong Organizational Skills: Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently, maintain accurate records, and prioritize responsibilities to meet deadlines effectively.
  • Ability to operate computer terminals, VCIN/NCIC terminals, Live Scan, Identex, Fingerprint Identification, Signature Pad Equipment, and use the Adani Conpass full-body scanner.
  • Criminal History: No felony convictions or pleas of guilty/no contest. No misdemeanor convictions involving moral turpitude. No misdemeanor sex offense convictions. No convictions requiring registration in the Virginia Sex Offender Registry. No undetected commission of the above crimes as an adult.
  • Traffic Violations: Held a valid driver’s license for a minimum of two (2) years. No driver’s license suspended or revoked within three years of application. No convictions within the past five years of Operating under the influence of drugs or alcohol, Fleeing or eluding a police officer, Failure to stop after an accident (hit and run), Operating a vehicle with a suspended license, Participating in a speed contest or drag race, Reckless driving or driving to endanger, Violation of state regulations on implied consent. No convictions within the past ten years of Homicide or manslaughter with a motor vehicle, Theft or use of a motor vehicle in the commission of felony, Assault with a motor vehicle. No more than two convictions for motor vehicle moving violations (other than those listed above) during the past three years. No involvement in two or more avoidable (at fault) accidents during the previous three years.
  • Drugs: No illegal sale or distribution of any illegal drugs in the past 7 years. No use of a controlled substance listed in Schedule I of Title 54.1 of the Code of Virginia in the past five years (unless drug rehabilitation program completed, excluding marijuana). No illegal use of a controlled substance listed in Schedule II of Title 54.1 of the Code of Virginia in the past two years (unless drug rehabilitation program completed). No illegal use, possession of marijuana or a derivative thereof within the previous twelve months.
  • Others: No past or current gang affiliation. No dishonorable discharge from any military service. No untruthfulness and/or the intentional withholding of information on any application, interview, or paperwork. No intentional failure to follow directions or reliance on others to complete any portion of the testing process.

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year of correctional experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Review and process warrants and court documents related to the incarceration and release of individuals.
  • Process individuals entering and leaving the facility in accordance with established procedures and automated systems.
  • Inventory and document inmate property, money, and valuables; issue and retrieve facility property as required.
  • Maintain accurate accountability and records of incarcerated individuals throughout the intake and release process.
  • Use VCIN/NCIC to verify criminal history and current warrants.
  • Conduct initial medical screenings and administer required alcohol and drug testing.
  • Complete fingerprinting, photographs, iris scans, and other identification procedures.
  • Review DCJS requirements and coordinate DNA collection when required.
  • Prepare incident, observation, and institutional reports and maintain accurate records.
  • Respond to public inquiries regarding incarcerated individuals and operate the facility’s automated Offender Management System.
