About The Position

The BOLT (Building Opportunities & Learning Together) Intern Program is Kinder Morgan’s elite summer internship program. This program offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the energy industry while enhancing professional and interpersonal skills. Interns will participate in meaningful projects that support the company's vision of delivering energy to improve lives and create a better world. Kinder Morgan is one of the largest energy infrastructure companies in North America, owning an interest in or operating approximately 79,000 miles of pipelines and 139 terminals. The company is a market leader in Natural Gas Pipelines, Products Pipelines, CO2, and Terminals, with a significant footprint of diversified and strategically located assets core to North American energy infrastructure. The Natural Gas Pipelines business unit operates the largest natural gas network in North America, serving major consuming markets and transporting approximately 40 percent of the natural gas consumed in the U.S. The Gas Storage Engineer role is responsible for the field/well operations of salt caverns and depleted reservoirs used for underground natural gas storage. This includes knowledge of gas storage wellheads and wellbores, maintenance, risk analysis, reservoir and salt cavern well integrity support, compliance reporting for PHMSA and the Texas Railroad Commission, and the development and continuous improvement of related programs and systems. The Gas Storage Engineer will report to the Manager of Gas Storage Engineering.

Requirements

  • Candidate must be working towards a Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • Entering either junior or senior year of college.
  • Senior students must be graduating in December 2027 or later to be eligible.
  • Ability to analyze reservoir performance, identify issues and recommend solutions to improve field deliverability
  • Ability to maintain and continually improve well operations
  • Ability to understand typical well-logging suites
  • Practical oilfield and/or storage operations knowledge including downhole well operations, wellbore and wellhead design
  • Ability and willingness to understand and implement all company/job related processes, procedures, guidelines and best practices
  • Ability to effectively coordinate projects and programs within a defined annual budget
  • Must demonstrate accountability by managing daily activities effectively, maintaining required work schedules, exhibiting strong attention to detail, and complying with company policies and procedures.
  • Ability to successfully work in a team environment with a focus on both internal and external customers, regulators and emergency responders
  • Strong focus on safe work practices and active participation in the safety program
  • Maintain a regular, dependable attendance and high level of performance
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers
  • Subject to PHMSA compliant drug testing program

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute requirements of Kinder Morgan’s operating and maintenance procedures for assigned gas storage assets following recommendations from API 1170 and 1171 as applicable
  • Interact with appropriate subject matter experts and other stakeholders to meet deliverability, injectivity, and gas storage reliability requirements
  • Identify, prioritize, document and address integrity threats
  • Implement the Gas Storage risk assessment/threat evaluation, risk ranking, long term assessment planning
  • Provide support to other company groups as needed such as Field Engineering, Operations, Commercial, Gas Control, Corrosion and Regulatory
  • Participate in regulatory interactions with PHMSA, TRRC and other State agencies as needed
  • Maintain and strive to continuously improve both new and existing applications and databases such as: Gas Storage Database, Well Risk Matrix, Logging Schedules, Well Files
