About The Position

This is an opportunity to utilize your Fabrication trade skills in the rail industry with strong earning potential, paid lunch breaks, penalty rates, and genuine career pathways. Based at the Northam (Avon) depot, you will be part of a skilled Rollingstock Maintenance team responsible for keeping locomotives, wagons, and freight services operational across Western Australia. The role involves servicing, repairing, and maintaining rollingstock to ensure the efficient running of freight services. You will conduct routine corrective maintenance and fault repair on wagons and locomotives, ensuring all work adheres to technical and operational specifications. Maintaining accurate records for asset condition, maintenance programs, and costing systems is also a key part of the role, as is reporting on work performed against the scheduled program and progressing the implementation of work procedures for continuous quality improvement.

Requirements

  • Strong commitment to safety
  • Current unrestricted WA driving licence
  • Fabrication Trade Certificate
  • High level of skill in interpreting technical instructions and drawings
  • High level of knowledge of functions, defects and fault finding with equipment

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Aluminium welding
  • Locomotive and wagon experience

Responsibilities

  • Keeping locomotives and wagons running safely through service, repair and maintenance work
  • Completing inspections, fault-finding and corrective maintenance on rollingstock assets
  • Working to scheduled maintenance programs and reporting on completed work
  • Following technical and operational specifications to deliver safe, high-quality outcomes
  • Maintaining accurate records for asset condition, maintenance activity and costing systems
  • Applying safe work practices, quality standards and continuous improvement across daily tasks
  • Supporting other WA maintenance depots in line with the EA agreement
  • Servicing, repairing and maintaining rollingstock
  • Conducting routine corrective maintenance and fault repair on wagons, locomotive fabrication, and repair work
  • Ensuring all work is performed in accordance with technical and operational specifications
  • Maintaining all records and associated documentation relating to asset condition, maintenance programs and costing systems
  • Reporting on actual work performed against the scheduled work program
  • Progressing the implementation and application of work procedures and practices in pursuit of ensuring continuous quality improvement.
