About The Position

This is an opportunity for a Fabrication tradesperson to join Australia's largest rail freight operator, Aurizon. Based at the Northam (Avon) depot, you will be part of the skilled Rollingstock Maintenance team, responsible for keeping locomotives and wagons running safely. The role offers strong earning potential with paid lunch breaks, penalty rates, and genuine career pathways, including leading hand opportunities. You will be exercising your fabrication trade skills in servicing, repairing, and maintaining rollingstock to ensure the efficient running of freight services.

Requirements

  • Strong commitment to safety
  • Current unrestricted WA driving licence
  • Fabrication Trade Certificate
  • High level of skill in interpreting technical instructions and drawings
  • High level of knowledge of functions, defects and fault finding with equipment

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Aluminium welding
  • Locomotive and wagon experience

Responsibilities

  • Keeping locomotives and wagons running safely through service, repair and maintenance work
  • Completing inspections, fault-finding and corrective maintenance on rollingstock assets
  • Working to scheduled maintenance programs and reporting on completed work
  • Following technical and operational specifications to deliver safe, high-quality outcomes
  • Maintaining accurate records for asset condition, maintenance activity and costing systems
  • Applying safe work practices, quality standards and continuous improvement across daily tasks
  • Supporting other WA maintenance depots in line with the EA agreement
  • Conduct routine corrective maintenance and fault repair on wagons, locomotive fabrication, and repair work as required
  • Ensure all work is performed in accordance with technical and operational specifications
  • Maintain all records and associated documentation relating to asset condition, maintenance programs and costing systems
  • Report on actual work performed against the scheduled work program
  • Progress the implementation and application of work procedures and practices in pursuit of ensuring continuous quality improvement
