About The Position
Mullican Flooring is seeking a motivated individual interested in building a long-term career in hardwood flooring manufacturing. This entry-level position assists boiler and kiln operators with operating and tending to a wood-fired boiler that generates steam for drying lumber in kilns. The helper also provides plant security and fire watch. The role is intended for someone with little to no experience who is willing to learn standard operating procedures and potentially develop into an experienced Boiler/Kiln Operator.
Requirements
- Ability to work days, nights, weekends, and holidays according to schedule.
- Understand and follow oral or written instructions from supervisors.
- Ability to perform a variety of duties that may change frequently.
- Ability to evaluate information using measurable standards.
- Ability to repeat short-duration tasks according to a set procedure.
- Ability to monitor gauges, dials, and other indicators to ensure machinery is working properly.
- Ability to work well as part of a team.
- Ability to complete daily reports as required.
- Basic mathematical skills.
- Understanding of basic machine components and operation.
- Sound decision-making skills.
- Willingness to learn and gain knowledge of standard operating procedures.
Responsibilities
- Conduct hourly rounds and walk-throughs throughout the mill.
- Clean the boiler area and report potential dangers.
- Assist the boiler operator as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
- Follow area- and machine-center-specific safety regulations and company safety rules.
- Wear required personal protective equipment, including a hardhat, safety glasses, and hearing protection as required.
- Avoid restricted areas and promptly report unsafe or improperly functioning equipment to a supervisor.
- Request assistance when a task exceeds individual knowledge.
- Visually inspect equipment and the work area before starting or operating equipment.
- Eliminate unsafe conditions whenever possible.
- Use standard lockout procedures when appropriate for machine centers.
- Use proper lifting techniques.
