About The Position

The Body Shop Technician is an integral part of the Service Department team. This position is crucial in achieving customer satisfaction by applying high-level vehicle body repair and refinishing expertise to repairs of medium- and heavy-duty trucks and trailers. The Body Shop Technician is responsible for completing repairs within the allotted timeframe, assessing vehicle damage, determining a course of action for repairs, and the ability to work respectfully with other departments, vendors, customers and co-workers.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years experience in vehicle body repair and restoration, including paint techniques, fiberglass, and metal work
  • High degree of product and technical knowledge
  • Ability to use a personal computer, a general understanding of Microsoft Office software programs, and the ability to learn other database or proprietary software programs as needed
  • Excellent follow-through, problem solving and organizational skills
  • Must be self-motivated with good written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be a team player with a strong sense of commitment to the customer, and to performing required tasks accurately and professionally
  • Must conduct him/herself in a professional manner.
  • Valid New York State Drivers License

Nice To Haves

  • Possess a valid Class B Commercial Drivers License
  • Advanced technical training/education

Responsibilities

  • Using advanced technical knowledge, repair the bodies of trucks and trailers within allotted time limits.
  • Determine a course of action for repair or restoration using computerized and/or specialized tools.
  • Establish list of parts/supplies needed for repair or restoration, and work with the Parts Department to assess parts availability.
  • Ability to work with a variety of surfaces and/or mediums, using specialized tools and equipment.
  • Read and decipher vehicle paint codes, mixing paint to required specifications.
  • Disassemble and assemble effected vehicle components accurately, ensuring all pieces are labeled and carefully stored.
  • Use KARMAC repair order system effectively, following established policies and procedures
  • Explain required repairs in a non-technical manner to service advisor
  • Clearly and concisely document each repair task on the repair order form
  • When repair is complete, ensure vehicles are parked in assigned areas, trucks are locked and keys are tagged and properly stored.
  • Complete all required training within specified time limits.
  • Work as a team to reach or exceed established service goals
  • Exceed customer expectations by: Repair completed on time, within estimate, and correctly the first time.
