About The Position
The Body Shop Foreman is responsible for maintaining order in the shop, assigning jobs, and ensuring the shop's cleanliness, organization, and overall function. This role involves assisting technicians with requests, performing hands-on repair, upfitting, and bodywork, and accurately tracking time worked on assigned jobs and repair orders. The Foreman coordinates with the Body Shop Manager, assesses incoming jobs, makes initial repair diagnoses, and creates customer repair orders. They manage available billing hours by delegating workload and carrying a personal production workload. This position provides leadership and technical expertise to the Body technician staff, upholding high standards for quality, safety, and customer satisfaction. The Foreman evaluates work in progress, informs management of delays, and ensures adherence to maintenance schedules for the facility and equipment. They also communicate with customers regarding appointments, repair status, and parts availability. The role includes performing journey-level repair work alongside technicians and accurately recording all time spent on duties.
Requirements
- Formal technical school graduate certificate/degree (or equivalent work experience)
- Minimum of 5 years heavy-duty truck or related industry experience to include processing repair orders, diagnosis, repair and maintenance of Body jobs, and customer service
- Demonstrated journey-level ability in body repair and upfitting
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Familiarity with both DOS and Windows-based computer programs
- Demonstrated working knowledge of warranty guidelines, claim procedures and company policies
- Ability to supervise employees and delegate work in a manner that best utilizes shop resources and technician abilities, while balancing lead duties with personal production
- The ability to work under pressure while prioritizing and processing several tasks simultaneously
Responsibilities

- Performs hands-on journey-level repair, upfitting, and bodywork as part of the daily workload, in addition to lead duties
- Accurately clocks into and out of assigned jobs and repair orders to record time worked.
- Tracks technicians' time in Karmak and is responsible for ensuring technicians are properly clocked on jobs
- Coordinates and communicates with the Body Shop Manager
- Assesses incoming Body department jobs, makes initial repair diagnosis, and creates customer repair orders following company procedures, including obtaining customer signature on form
- Updates and closes computerized customer repair orders while ensuring all Body department activities were accounted for and properly documented on the order
- Manages available billing hours by planning and effectively delegating workload to qualified and available Body technicians while also carrying a personal production workload
- Provides leadership and demonstrates sound industry knowledge while serving as a technical resource for Body technician staff
- Shows a heightened commitment to the success of the Body department by demonstrating and assuring high standards for quality, safety, and customer concerns
- Evaluates all work in progress to ensure repairs are proceeding in a timely fashion and completed with a high degree of accuracy
- Informs Manager and various other Body personnel of delays in work performance, necessary repair order extensions, and additional service requirements
- Establishes and ensures adherence to maintenance schedule for Body facility and shop equipment
- Communicates with customers regarding the scheduling of appointments, status of their repairs, parts availability, and work in progress
- Performs journey-level repair, upfitting, and bodywork alongside Body technicians, clocking into repair orders and jobs to record actual time worked
- Records time accurately, including time spent on lead and administrative duties, in accordance with company timekeeping procedures
- Tracks and monitors technicians' time on Karmak, ensuring accurate clocking on jobs and repair orders
- Ensures an adequate resource inventory is available for technicians, including oil, grease, shop supplies, cleaning equipment, and materials
- All other duties as assigned
