Requirements

OPTION I: Completion of a recognized body and fender apprentice training program of at least four years duration.
OPTION II: Five years of experience in automotive body and fender repair work, one year of which must have been at the journey level.
A valid California Class C Driver License is required to perform job-related essential functions.
Successful applicants must provide verification of their driver license and a copy of their driving record from the California State Department of Motor Vehicles before final appointment.
License must not be currently suspended, restricted, or revoked.

Nice To Haves

Journey-level experience is defined as: Independently performing a full-range of body and fender work. Positions at this level operate with fairly significant freedom from day-to-day supervision and need little or no guidance on such matters as selecting appropriate problem-solving methods and techniques, locating appropriate regulations, or applying proper procedures to carry out work in automotive body and fender repair work.

Responsibilities

Removes vehicle parts on cars, trucks, utility trucks, and heavy machinery (e.g., cranes, backhoes, etc.) to access critical repair areas using hand tools.
Re-assembles restored or new vehicle parts after tear down using to restore body and fender parts to original condition, being sure to install all parts according to vehicle specifications.
Identifies necessary repairs through independent damage assessment, distinguishing between vehicles, their components, and specific types of damage to determine an efficient restoration plan.
Inspects repairs to ensure imperfections have been completely removed by performing visual, auditory, and sensory checks, testing any affected operating components.
Reviews work orders and job estimates to thoroughly understand tasks required for each vehicle and expected hours for the job.
Documents all work performed and any notes about the job so it can be used for reference in the event of a future accident or future repair needs.
Prioritizes safe work behaviors, adhering to all safety guidelines (e.g., company policies and OSHA guidelines) for climbing ladders, lifting materials, operating forklifts and rigging systems, jacking up cars, and other standard work like welding, cutting, and using tools.
Completes tasks efficiently to restore vehicles to usable condition as quickly as possible while maintaining safety standards and thoroughness.
