About The Position

Angell Animal Medical Center (AAMC) in Boston, MA is seeking a board-certified criticalist with an emergency focus. Angell has served the greater Boston and New England area for over a century as a primary care facility, a 24-hour emergency hospital, and a tertiary referral center. It is a premier veterinary institution with 55 senior veterinarians, 20 interns, 6 specialty interns, and 16 residents, offering a wide range of specialty services. AAMC provides a rich educational environment with weekly continuing education seminars and regular multi-disciplinary specialty rounds, and has residency programs in ECC, surgery, cardiology, and internal medicine. The hospital is approximately 80,000 square feet and state-of-the-art, featuring a new intensive care unit with mechanical ventilation and hemodialysis, a blood bank, 35 exam rooms, 8 surgical suites, CT/MRI/fluoroscopy, a full-service clinical laboratory, microbiology service, necropsy suite, histopathology laboratory, and a linear accelerator for stereotactic radiosurgery. The ECC service includes 6 criticalists, 6 residents, and 9 ER doctors, supported by 53 technicians/assistants, 5 of whom are ECC-VTS certified.

Requirements

  • DVM or equivalent degree.
  • ACVECC board certification.
  • Aptitude for multi-tasking.
  • Ability to work successfully in a team environment.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with veterinary staff, clients, and referring veterinarians.

Responsibilities

  • Provide critical care and manage emergency cases.
  • Mentor residents and interns.
  • Participate in cage side rounds and formal didactic ECC rounds.
  • Potentially participate in service or hospital leadership.
  • Potentially serve as an intern and residency program director.
