About The Position

The Blueberry Harvest School Nurse ensures that health services are available and accessible for all students during the blueberry harvest. This role involves working with BHS staff, the Maine Mobile Health Program, and other service providers to connect students to health services as needed. Additionally, the nurse supports the implementation of social emotional classroom support services for students across all classrooms at the BHS, covering age groups 3-5, 6-8, 9-11, and 12-15. The goal is for all students attending the BHS to receive health and social emotional support services, feel their health needs are met, and experience learning opportunities where they feel welcome, supported, and connected to others.

Requirements

  • Must demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to Mano en Mano’s mission and vision.
  • Demonstrate experience that reflects a commitment to equity and social justice.
  • Four years of experience demonstrating a range of skills relevant to health and wellness and/or community organizing.
  • Must be fluent in English AND Haitian Creole, Mi’kmaq, Passamaquoddy, and/or Spanish.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to student health needs, including: providing basic first aid, administering student medications, and coordinating program responses to emergency medical needs.
  • Maintain up-to-date student information regarding allergies, health conditions, and medications, and communicate student health needs immediately to the BHS School Coordinator.
  • Ensure all first aid kits at the school and during field trips are stocked and accessible.
  • Coordinate student access to health services available from the Maine Mobile Health Program, and other service providers.
  • When there are no student health needs, assist the Social Emotional Support Services team as a floating support where needed most.
  • Provide individual and small group support based on students’ educational, emotional, and behavioral needs.
  • Support highly engaging enrichment activities that incorporate social-emotional learning opportunities.
  • Share supervision responsibilities with Teachers during bus arrival/dismissal, meal times, recess, and field trips.
  • Communicate regularly with other program staff to ensure that students are able to access support services available during the program.
  • Share staff responsibilities during one evening event per week, such as Family Night.
  • Track all health and wellness services provided to students
