Blood Management Nurse (N3) - Selkirk
About The Position
Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations. Under the general direction of the Technical Director - Blood Management Services and in collaboration with the other team members, the incumbent is responsible for: Providing patient care including screening referrals, patient assessment, and implementation of Blood Management strategies under the direction of the Blood Management Medical Director and Manager. This includes administering intravenous iron treatments in a clinic setting and monitoring patients as outlined in the Blood Management Iron Clinic Guidelines. Participating and/or leading numerous committees. These committees work together to review, develop, implement, and evaluate nursing processes, policies, procedures, best practice guidelines, nursing standards, protocols, and training manuals. They also work on quality initiatives, risk management as well as special projects that are aimed at improving the continuum of care. Supporting provincial, regional and/or site nursing education teams in policy development, curriculum development, in servicing for safe administration of blood products. Data collection for evaluation of Blood Management Service patients and audits of transfusion practices. Participating in other research projects that are program related as required. Participation in Professional and Self- Development.
Requirements
- Graduate of an approved Registered Nursing education program required.
- Responsible for maintaining and providing proof of active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM).
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Training requirements for this position shall be in accordance with the Employer policy.
- Valid Manitoba Class 5 driver’s license and access to a vehicle required.
- Knowledge of College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba Standards of Practice for Registered Nurses.
- Knowledge of Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics for Registered Nurses.
- Knowledge of Scope of practice as documented in the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA).
- Knowledge of Regional/Facility/Unit policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines.
- Knowledge of Nursing care related to clinical area.
- Knowledge of Personal Health Information Act (PHIA), Protection of Persons in Care Act, Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS), Principles of Routine Practices (Universal Precautions) and other legislated acts.
- Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize care for individual patient or group of patients.

Nice To Haves
- Minimum of 3 years recent related nursing experience required in acute medicine/ surgery or obstetrics.
- Previous experience with education, policy writing, and program development preferred.
- Previous experience in research of a clinical nature preferred.
- Baccalaureate degree in Nursing preferred.
- Certificate in Patient Blood Management an asset.
- Active participation in professional associations e.g., Association of Regulated Nurses of Manitoba (ARNM) preferred.
- Preference will be given to those applicants competent in an Indigenous language and/or knowledge in Indigenous customs, traditions, and values.
- Public speaking experience is an asset.
