At Stony Brook Medicine, a TH Clinical Laboratory Technologist I serves as a valuable member of the team, demonstrating the highest degree of technical competence and theoretical knowledge applicable to a comprehensive tertiary care blood bank and transfusion service. This role functions as the Lead Technologist in the Blood Bank, or Blood Bank Supervisor. Under the direction of the Blood Bank Associate Technical Director, the incumbent will supervise other TH Clinical Laboratory Technologists and coordinate support for TH Clinical Laboratory Technologist Is with specific shift responsibilities, acting as the technical resource for the Blood Bank. The position involves performing supervisor duties such as work assignments and scheduling in the absence of the Shift Lead Tech, and standing in for the TH Associate Technical Director when necessary. Qualified candidates will possess superior Blood Banking knowledge, communication skills, and BBLIS knowledge, adhering to high standards of excellence. This position is critical to the Blood Bank's operation and its ability to support essential hospital services like the ED, OR, and ICUs, as well as IT, Clinical Informatics, and Quality Assurance functions. Responsibilities include technical and administrative direction of the Blood Bank, with a focus on the WellSky Transfusion Laboratory Information System and its integration with the SBUH Electronic Medical Record (EMR). The role also involves acting as a Blood Bank liaison to other hospital departments, continuing quality assurance efforts, and serving as a technical, administrative, educational, policy, and procedure resource.
