About The Position

Responsible for collecting, processing, and testing patient specimens for the diagnosis and treatment of disease. This role involves performing routine waived, moderately, and high complex testing, collecting and processing specimens, evaluating and solving problems related to specimen collection and processing, preparing samples for testing, and maintaining laboratory equipment and supplies. The Lead will also perform complex laboratory procedures, analyze quality control data, assist in troubleshooting and instrument maintenance, participate in training programs and validation studies, and ensure proper quality control measures are in place. Additionally, this role serves as a mentor to junior MLTs, assists in procedure writing and revision, collaborates with MLS staff, oversees daily testing workflows, trains and mentors new coworkers, and assists in maintaining accreditation and compliance documentation. The Lead also manages laboratory inventory and equipment maintenance.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in applied science in Medical Laboratory Technology
  • MLT (ASCP) or equivalent certification
  • 5 years in clinical laboratory experience
  • Intermittent hand manipulation required.
  • Intermittent lifting and carrying of 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine waived, moderately, and high complex testing.
  • Collects, Processes and Receives specimens (including blood, urine, fecal, body fluid) to be analyzed in all departments of the clinical laboratory.
  • Evaluates and solves problems related to collection and processing of biological specimens of analysis of all age ranges.
  • Prepare samples for testing and send out to reference laboratories.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and stock supplies.
  • Performs complex laboratory procedures; recognizes deviation from expected results; analyzes and corrects problems using scientific principles under indirect supervision per CLIA requirements.
  • Analyzes quality control data, makes judgments concerning results and takes appropriate action to maintain accuracy and precision under indirect supervision per CLIA requirements.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and instrument maintenance.
  • Participate in training programs.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and resolving instrument failures.
  • Participate in comparison studies and validation of new equipment.
  • Ensure proper quality control measures are in place.
  • Serve as a mentor to junior MLTs.
  • Assist in writing and revising laboratory procedures.
  • Collaborate with MLS staff on technical operations.
  • Oversee MLTs and daily testing workflows.
  • Train and mentor new coworkers.
  • Assist in maintaining accreditation and compliance documentation.
  • Manage laboratory inventory and equipment maintenance.
  • Complete department required continuing education annually.
