About The Position

Responsible for collecting, processing, and testing patient specimens for the diagnosis and treatment of disease. This role involves performing routine waived, moderately, and high complex testing, collecting and processing specimens (including blood, urine, fecal, body fluid) for analysis in all departments of the clinical laboratory. The position requires evaluating and solving problems related to specimen collection and processing, preparing samples for testing, and sending them to reference laboratories. Additionally, the role includes maintaining laboratory equipment and stocking supplies, performing complex laboratory procedures, recognizing and correcting deviations from expected results using scientific principles, and analyzing quality control data to ensure accuracy and precision. The Blood Bank Lead will also assist in troubleshooting and instrument maintenance, participate in training programs, resolve instrument failures, and engage in comparison studies and validation of new equipment. Ensuring proper quality control measures are in place, serving as a mentor to junior MLTs, assisting in writing and revising laboratory procedures, and collaborating with MLS staff on technical operations are key aspects of this role. The lead will oversee MLTs and daily testing workflows, train and mentor new coworkers, and assist in maintaining accreditation and compliance documentation, as well as managing laboratory inventory and equipment maintenance. The position also requires completing department-required continuing education annually.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in applied science in Medical Laboratory Technology
  • MLT (ASCP) or equivalent certification
  • 5 years in clinical laboratory experience
  • Intermittent hand manipulation required.
  • Intermittent lifting and carrying of 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine waived, moderately, and high complex testing.

  • Evaluates and solves problems related to collection and processing of biological specimens of analysis of all age ranges.
  • Prepare samples for testing and send out to reference laboratories
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and stock supplies.
  • Performs complex laboratory procedures; recognizes deviation from expected results; analyzes and corrects problems using scientific principles under indirect supervision per CLIA requirements.
  • Analyzes quality control data, makes judgments concerning results and takes appropriate action to maintain accuracy and precision under indirect supervision per CLIA requirements.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and instrument maintenance.
