About The Position

This role involves cleaning and preparing surfaces of ships and marine structures using abrasive blasting equipment, removing old paint, rust, scale, and other contaminants. The position requires applying primers, paints, and other coatings, ensuring even coverage and appropriate thickness, and adhering to specified painting procedures. The individual will inspect finished surfaces for quality, perform touch-ups, and maintain detailed records of work. Safety is paramount, requiring adherence to all safety regulations, use of PPE, ensuring proper ventilation, and proper disposal of hazardous materials. Routine maintenance of equipment and keeping work areas clean are also key responsibilities. The employee must comply with company safety rules and OSHA standards, be medically qualified to wear required PPE, and be able to understand safety instructions.

Requirements

  • Must be physically and medically qualified to wear required personal protective equipment as prescribed under OSHA standards.
  • Must be able to hear warning signals and read and comprehend safety instructions, regulations, and warnings.

Responsibilities

  • Use abrasive blasting equipment to clean and prepare surfaces of ships and marine structures.
  • Remove old paint, rust, scale, and other contaminants.
  • Ensure surfaces are properly prepared to receive paint and coatings.
  • Apply primers, paints, and other coatings using brushes, rollers, and spray equipment.
  • Ensure even coverage and appropriate thickness of coatings.
  • Follow specified painting procedures and techniques to achieve desired results.
  • Inspect finished surfaces to ensure they meet quality standards and specifications.
  • Perform touch-ups and repairs as needed.
  • Maintain detailed records of work completed, materials used, and any issues encountered.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations and procedures, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ensure proper ventilation and environmental controls are in place during blasting and painting operations.
  • Dispose of hazardous materials in accordance with local and federal regulations.
  • Perform routine maintenance on blasting and painting equipment.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions or safety hazards to the supervisor.
  • Keep work areas clean and organized.
