The Role The candidate should have 2+ years of blaster experience of the blast process of surface preparation by operating blast equipment used to create a profile on a steel structure which will allow the coating treatment to adhere properly to the metal surfaces. The candidate will be trained in the use, care and safe operation of blast equipment furnished by the company. Candidates should be able to learn and perform safely, blast operations in tanks and voids as well as working heights such as staging, scaffolding and lifting equipment (JLG and scissors lift equipment). Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries, is seeking qualified blasters, with 2+ years of hands on Blasting work experience.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of blaster experience
  • Active C7 or C13 certification
  • Able to take measurements or be willing to learn
  • Willing to undergo a background investigation and drug screen
  • Able to kneel, squat, crawl, bend, stoop, and climb on a daily basis
  • Able to lift at least 40 pounds
  • Able to perform overhead work
  • Able to work overtime as needed
  • Able to be clean shaven to wear a respirator
  • Able to perform work outdoors, year-round, in all weather conditions
  • Able to work at extreme heights
  • Able to work in small, tight, confined spaces
  • Willing to work any shift

Responsibilities
