About The Position

This position is responsible for operating shot blast equipment and automatic degreasers to clean various types of pumps and fabricated components. The role involves receiving instructions, moving materials using cranes or hoists, maintaining abrasive levels, operating high-pressure nozzles for cleaning, and performing finishing tasks like grinding and deburring. The operator will also be responsible for the maintenance of the cleaning equipment, including draining and refilling tanks.

Requirements

Performs repetitive job involving use of shot blast and degreasing equipment.
Checks cleaned surfaces for defects.
Operate controls to operate cleaning equipment.
Manually operates high pressure nozzle to clean components.
Makes simple adjustments to obtain required results.
Moderate attention and care required to prevent damage to material handling equipment and to individual processing units.
Use crane.
Light mental or visual application required when sand blasting, degreasing where there is a variety but actions taken and decisions made are limited to few possibilities.
Moderate physical exertion when operating sand blasting nozzle or moving material with crane.

Responsibilities

Operate shot blast equipment and automatic degreasers to clean pumps and fabricated components.
Receive verbal or written instructions and work assignments.
Use floor-controlled electric crane, electric jib hoist, or walking electric lift truck to move and position material.
Check and add grit or sand to maintain sufficient levels in hoppers.
Put on protective equipment before starting cleaning operations.
Manually operate high-pressure nozzle for cleaning specified areas.
Check cleaned surfaces and reblast for specified finish.
Use portable grinder to remove surface defects, and to chip, grind, and deburr material.
Make gaskets.
Call Foreman’s attention to obvious imperfections.
Operate blast house in a prescribed manner.
Disconnect pipes, clean out clogged lines, and sweep and clean sand and grit from the floor.
Position assembled lube-oil pump over oil tank and dip/coat unit with oil.
Operate controls to start degreaser for automatic cleaning cycle.
Transfer parts to rinse tank, unload cleaned parts, and use air to blow off to dry.
Drain and refill tanks with cleaning and rinsing solution.
Keep immediate work area clean and orderly.
